OC lemon law
OC lemon law applies if your car has problems or faults that cannot be fixed after a reasonable number of efforts throughout the warranty period. Many people believe that if they buy a used automobile and it breaks down, they are out of luck since they don't have a guarantee or it has expired. That, however, may not be the case. If you own a used car, OC Lemon Law can assist you in a number of ways.
Almost all new cars come with a
manufacturer's express warranty. These warranties are usually divided into two
categories: a basic or bumper-to-bumper warranty and a powertrain warranty.
Let's understand the difference between these two
Bumper to Bumper Warranty:
The duration of this warranty is less
than that of the power train warranty. Typically, it will cover any part
failures that occur with your car during the warranty period. This warranty is
generally 3 years/36,000 miles, although it may be longer depending on the
manufacturer of your vehicle.
Powertrain Warranty:
This warranty will continue
concurrently with the bumper to bumper warranty and will be longer in duration,
for example, 5-years/50,000 miles or 10-years/100,000 miles. It is, once again,
dependent on the manufacturer. This warranty usually covers the mechanisms that
allow the vehicle to move. Typically, the engine, transmission, transfer case,
and axle assemblies are involved.
According to the OC lemon law, these
warranties do not just expire when the car is sold. So, depending on how old
the automobile is, these manufacturer guarantees may still be in effect and you
can take benefit of them if you buy it used. So, if you buy an 8-year-old
automobile that comes with a 10-year powertrain guarantee, you may still be
eligible for two years of coverage. Even if the automobile is old, if you start
having transmission problems during this time and have to continue taking it in
for repairs, the OC lemon law will still apply. It usually makes no difference
if you are not the original owner.
However, if you acquire a secondhand
automobile and the original manufacturer's warranty has expired, you still have
alternatives. Generally, the dealer from whom you purchase your used automobile
will offer their own express guarantee.
Remember one thing just because you
bought a secondhand automobile doesn't mean you don't have rights. If you have
